They Want to Ban This Memory Cure and Make it a Drug

C:\Users\Barwick\Downloads\12386379_s.jpg

The All-Natural Memory Loss Cure They’d Rather Ban than Let You Know About

There truly is a safe, natural way to reverse memory loss and restore mental clarity, simply by using a supplement that triggers your brain cells to produce more ATP.

It’s called Vinpocetine, and it’s a derivative of the flowering Periwinkle Plant. What’s more, it’s been quietly sold since 1994 in the United States as a memory-boosting nutritional supplement. And tens of thousands of Americans use it regularly.

Unfortunately, The FDA now wants to ban its sale and allow the big pharmaceutical companies to turn it into a prescription drug. This is the story no one else is telling you…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for Targeted Nutrients:

The medical Gestapo has long wanted to ban the sale of safe, natural Vinpocetine – the world’s most powerful, natural memory booster. Why? So Big Pharma can turn it into an expensive prescription drug.

And now, powerful forces in Congress who are clearly in the pocket of Big Pharma are calling for its ban.

In fact, at the end of last year, Senator Claire McCaskill who sits on the U.S. Senate’s Special Committee on Aging, began spear-heading a campaign to have the FDA ban the sale of Vincpocetine as a nutritional supplement.

This, under the spurious argument that since Vinpocetine is sold as a prescription drug throughout Europe, it shouldn’t be allowed to be sold as a nutritional supplement in the United States.

In other words, she’s attempting to harmonize U.S. dietary supplement laws with the far more restrictive laws of Europe that make prescription drugs out of safe, natural plant extracts.

Betraying the American Public

Of course, as many critics have correctly pointed out, this is nothing more than a sneaky attempt to set a precedent to have numerous other beneficial nutritional supplements banned in the United States, simply because Big Pharma has convinced other countries to allow them to be sold as “prescription only” drugs.

What’s more, it’s a blatant betrayal of this nation’s middle-aged to elderly population, which Senator McCaskill is supposed to be representing the best interests of from her seat on the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

In working to ban safe, natural Vinpocetine, she’s stabbing in the back those tens of thousands of people like you and me in the over-40 crowd who depend upon safe, natural Vinpocetine to keep our memories sharp and our mental processes operating at peak capacity.

Why Do They Want to Ban Vinpocetine?

The reason they want to ban Vinpocetine and turn it into a drug is quite simple: It’s one of the few nutritional supplements that actually does what it’s advertised to do – it dramatically improves memory and mental clarity by increasing blood flow to the brain and stimulating brain cells to produce more energy in the form of ATP.

Indeed, Dr. Ward Dean, M.D., co-author of the bestselling books Smart Drugs and Nutrients and Smart Drugs II, says Vinpocetine is like “Viagra for the brain.”

And Bernd Wollschlaeger, M.D., a Florida-based board-certified family physician who is also the associate editor of the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association (JANA), says Vinpocetine has become one of the mainstays of his practice when it comes to patients complaining of memory loss and mild cognitive impairment.

According to Dr. Wollschlaeger:

“All of the peer-reviewed studies I’ve seen found a significant improvement in cognitive function with Vinpocetine.

Until Vinpocetine, we physicians have had nothing to prevent cognitive decline. We only have drugs to treat after the fact. With safe, natural Vinpocetine, patients see comparatively rapid improvement in memory functions as well as enhancement of learning and recall and overall alertness.

Results are often seen in only seven to ten days. We don’t have to wait four or six or eight weeks, like with Gingko Biloba, to see results.

What’s more, there have been more than 100 clinical studies conducted on Vinpocetine, with over 30,000 patients, proving its safety and effectiveness.”

What’s more, Dr. Beth M. Ley, author of the book, Vinpocetine, Boost Your Brain Power With Periwinkle Extract, says the supplement not only stimulates memory, but also improves eyesight in 70% of people tested!

George Foss, a long-time consultant to the nutritional supplement industry, and former general manager of Kayser Nutrition, explains how Vinpocetine works, and why it has become the world’s #1 best-selling all-natural brain-boosting supplement:

“Vinpocetine’s astonishing beneficial effects on memory, recall and mental acuity occur principally because of its ability to bring age-related declines in the cellular energy functions of the brain back to more youthful levels.

It does so by literally nourishing the brain. First, it increases blood flow to the brain through mild dilation of the blood vessels, which in turn dramatically boosts glucose and oxygen uptake by the brain’s 100 billion neurons.

The neurons thrive on this increased glucose and oxygen, which in turn is used to produce prodigious quantities of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, which is pure cellular energy.

This increased production of ATP within the brain quite rapidly boosts the metabolism, or energy activity of the entire brain back to the levels of a young adult.

Finally, this increased energy activity triggers two crucial functions in the brain: increased cell-to-cell communication for quicker thinking, and repair and/or replacement of damaged brain cells for optimal brain function.”

Numerous other doctors, clinical researchers and medical experts attest to the astonishing ability of Vinpocetine to boost quality of thinking, long-term planning, cognition enhancement, and even to reduce some of the devastating symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

For example, Dr. Ray Sahelian, M.D. notes:

“There have been quite a few studies demonstrating the positive effects of Vinpocetine on brain function.

Researchers at the University of Surrey in England administered Vinpocetine to patients suffering from mild to moderate dementia. In this placebo-controlled, randomized double-blind trial 203 patients received Vinpocetine every day for 16 weeks.

They were given either 10 mg doses of Vinpocetine three times a day, 20 mg doses of Vinpocetine three times a day, or placebo three times a day.

Significant cognitive improvements were found in the active treatment groups compared to the placebo groups. Interestingly, the patients on the 10 mg doses performed even better than those on the higher 20 mg. doses.”

So now you can see why the FDA and politician who are in the pockets of Big Pharma want to ban Vinpocetine: It really works!

Is Big Pharma Campaign Cash

Behind the Coming Ban on Vinpocetine?

Senator Claire McCaskill, MO

As Mike Adams at Natural News has pointed out, Senator McCaskill is one of the U.S. Senate’s largest recipients of campaign cash from Big Pharma.

For example, Adams reveals that in just one recent year McCaskill raked in over $146,000 in campaign contributions from Express Scripts, “one of the largest pharmaceutical retailers in North America.”

What’s more, much of that money was routed by the good Senator through a maze of lobbyist groups or PACs so it would not be noticed by her constituents and the general public (unless they know how to go check for such things on websites like opensecrets.org).
Senator McCaskill also takes huge amounts of money from greedy anti-consumer corporations like Monsanto.

She’s also the Senator who attacked TV’s Doctor Oz several years back in a Senate hearing, accusing him of peddling “quack remedies” on his TV show.

In reality, Dr. Oz sells no nutritional supplement products at all, and takes no money from the manufacturers of natural products he recommends on his show. And, as Mike Adams has rightly pointed out, Dr. Oz “goes out of his way to halt dietary supplement companies from using his name to promote such products.”

So while Dr. Oz operates with relative integrity, it’s Senator McCaskill who’s been guilefully hiding her blatant financial conflicts of interest with her Big Pharma high-dollar donors.

Hypocrisy, lack of transparency and astonishing lack of integrity appear to be the hallmarks of those who oppose the people’s right to enjoy the benefits of safe, natural nutritional supplements.

Indeed, shortly after Senator McCaskill called for the FDA to ban Vinpocetine, the FDA quickly moved to place a “tentative notification” in the Federal Register stating that “Vinpocetine is not a legal dietary ingredient.”

This, of course, is just the first step in the campaign to have Vinpocetine completely banned as a nutritional supplement.

And it’s being done in spite of the fact that the FDA had not once challenged Vinpocetine’s sale as a dietary supplement for the past 23 years since the very first New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) filing on the nutrient was made with the agency.

Indeed, the FDA has allowed it to be sold all of this time without complaint, and there have been no serious adverse events reported even though millions of bottles have been sold to the American public over the course of the past two decades. (If you haven’t tried it yet, you really need to do so while it’s still legally available.)

Backlash Against the FDA

The Natural Products Association has taken issue with the new FDA notification, noting that since there have been no serious adverse events reports on Vinpocetine in over 20 years.

It’s becoming abundantly obvious that Big Pharma now wants Vinpocetine out of the way so they can dominate the ‘memory enhancement’ niche with one of their own prescription drugs, or turn Vinpocetine into a prescription memory drug like they’ve done throughout Europe.”

— Wiki.Medi.Pedia.com

And since the FDA had “multiple chances” to stop Vinpocetine from being sold as a dietary supplement when its NDI submissions were being filed over 20 years ago, but never did, their current stance is legally unjustifiable.

Yet the FDA has yet to budge on its sudden stance against the nutrient.

Clearly, this demonstrates the dirty, under-handed and thoroughly corrupt behind-the-scenes dealings that take place whenever bought-and-sold Congressional representatives and the FDA get involved in the dietary supplement marketplace on behalf of Big Pharma.

As the highly respected Health Sciences Institutes pointed out:

“…the FDA has just set the stage for one of the most devious and underhanded moves ever. The agency has announced its plans to ban a remarkably safe supplement. One that’s been helping people protect their brains – and keep their memories intact – for decades.

This is nothing but a high-five to Big Pharma. A scheme that would allow drug makers to take a compound – one that’s synthesized from the seeds of the periwinkle plant – slap a fancy name on it, and call it a drug. Oh, and charge you hundreds of dollars a bottle.”

Thankfully, Senator Orrin Hatch, who helped craft and negotiate the 1994 dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) which gave Americans greater freedom to obtain and use safe, natural nutritional supplements, has also stepped up to the plate to urge the FDA to withdraw their notice from the Federal Register, and has called on the FDA Commissioner to reverse his stand against Vinpocetine.

The Council for Responsible Nutrition has also stepped in and warned the FDA that their move to ban Vinpocetine is “legally deficient” and “undermines the dietary supplement industry’s confidence in the new dietary ingredient notification (NDI) process.”

After all, as Functional Health Practitioner Sally Oh has stated in her petition to the FDA to let Vinpocetine remain on the market as a dietary supplement:

“Removal of Vinpocetine from the natural health marketplace will endanger the health of Americans who take this supplement daily to protect against neuro-degeneration.

If Americans are denied access to Vinpocetine, healthcare costs will skyrocket as circulatory deficits to the brains of aging Americans will increase vascular and Alzheimer’s dementia risk.”

Of course, the FDA appears to care more about enhancing pharmaceutical company profits than allowing the American people to protect the health and well-being of their own brains through natural, nutritional methods.

Since this potentially dire situation is still playing out, even as you read this special report, it remains to be seen whether the FDA will listen to reason and withdraw their notice that Vinpocetine is no longer considered a dietary supplement, or will ultimately ban the supplement altogether.

I’ll keep you informed as the situation continues to develop. Meanwhile…
