Reduce Arthritis and Inflammation Symptoms Naturally

Talented Senior Woman Painting in Art Studio - Reduce Arthritis and Inflammation Symptoms Naturally

Since the 1940s, Pregnenolone has been known as a safe, natural substance that can help reduce the painful symptoms of arthritis and inflammation.

But why haven’t we heard more about Pregnenolone’s naturally-derived anti-inflammatory properties? Why do doctors turn to synthetic (and potentially dangerous) cortisone drugs rather than all-natural Pregnenolone?

Learn why this parent hormone from which all other hormones in your body are derived is once again becoming a shining star for tens of thousands of individuals suffering from the ravages of arthritis pain and inflammation.

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for Targeted Nutrients

Multiple clinical studies conducted in the 1940s and ’50s have demonstrated that a natural hormone called Pregnenolone is highly effective against arthritis pain and inflammation.

What’s more, in those studies Pregnenolone produced beneficial results for an astonishing 80% of those who tried it. Yet if fell out of favor with modern medicine just a few years later, when synthetic (and potentially dangerous) cortisone drugs were invented.

According to Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., CNS:

“Scientists now believe Pregnenolone can relieve joint pain as well as rheumatoid arthritis and gout, even when conventional therapies may not help.”

And, as Dr. William D. Merkel, M.D. has pointed out, this is nothing new. Not at all. Indeed, Pregnenolone has been used for decades to treat the ravages of arthritis. He writes:

“Pregnenolone was originally used in the 1940’s to treat arthritis and it proved remarkably effective for relieving arthritic symptoms. Studies show that Pregnenolone may relieve the symptoms of rheumatory and osteo arthritis and increase the range of motion of arthritic joints.”

Researchers say that’s because Pregnenolone is the parent hormone from which the body makes all other natural hormones, including cortisol (i.e., hydrocortisone), the body’s natural arthritis-fighting anti-inflammatory steroidal hormone.

Not Toxic Like Synthetic Cortisone Drugs

Of course, today most doctors prescribe the man-made synthetic cortisone drugs known as prednisone or prednisolone, which can have devastating side effects such as diabetes, osteoporosis, immune system dysfunction and mental disturbances.

But when the human body makes its own hydrocortisone out of Pregnenolone it has no known debilitating effects. And again, this simple fact has been known for decades. As noted neurobiologist Dr. Eugene Roberts, who has studied the clinical arthritis research from the 1940s and 1950s has stated:

“Treatment with Pregnenolone can be maintained indefinitely without apparent harmful effects and is much less expensive than with ACTH or cortisone or with other anti-inflammatory steroids.”

As Dave Tuttle, a writer for Life Extension magazine and scholar at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence has stated,

“Pregnenolone has been shown to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis…this hormone alters the permeability of cell membranes, lessening swelling and associated pain with a resulting increase in strength.

Pregnenolone also may play a role in reducing the formation of COX-2, which would counteract the availability of various inflammatory compounds. A number of studies have confirmed that Pregnenolone has dramatic anti-arthritic effects.

…Moreover, a comparative study of cortisone and Pregnenolone found that improvements lasted longer after the study ended when Pregnenolone was administered.”

In other words, not only does Pregnenolone work against arthritis inflammation, but when its arthritis-relieving effects are compared directly to synthetic cortisone drugs, Pregnenolone’s beneficial qualities last far longer than the cortisone drugs.

That’s because supplementing with natural Pregnenolone often triggers the human body to begin boosting its own natural Pregnenolone levels. As noted biologist and author Ray Peat has pointed out:

“Part of Pregnenolone’s long lasting effect is because it improves the body’s ability to produce its own natural Pregnenolone. It also tends to improve function of the thyroid and other glands, and this ‘normalizing’ effect on the other glands helps to account for its wide range of beneficial effects.”

Pregnenolone Has Low Toxicity; No Adverse Effects

What’s more, in a study titled “Pregnenolone” published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology, Volume 10, Issue 4, 1 April 1950, researchers confirmed that Pregnenolone has very low toxicity and there are generally no adverse effects. They wrote:

“Among the hormones now being studied in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, Pregnenolone appears to have certain advantages that should mark this compound as worthy of careful inquiry.

It has an extremely low order of toxicity; it has not shown any adverse effect on endocrine physiology; and it has shown some promise in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.”

And according to the clinical textbook, Endocrine Replacement Therapy in Clinical Practice, hormone researcher Dr. A. Wayne Meikle, MD, states:

“In the 1940s and 1950s, Pregnenolone was safely used as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, improving symptoms in a majority of patients in most studies.”

What’s more, Dr. Meikle writes that in his own modern-day preliminary studies, that same improvement seen by researchers in the 1950s has been borne out. He states:

“…From anecdotal evidence volunteered by our subjects in preliminary studies, Pregnenolone administration has effectively mitigated ‘aches and pains’ attributed to arthritis.”

Pain Diminished, Muscle Strength Increased

According to a 1951 clinical study published in the journal Annals of Rheumatic Disease, and titled “Pregnenolone in the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis”:

“Researchers treated thirty arthritis patients with Pregnenolone, fourteen of whom were suffering from rheumatoid arthritis…They reported results which appear to be definitely favorable.

Pain and stiffness in joints was diminished, muscle strength was increased, and fatigue was less evident. A feeling of ‘well-being’ was established usually within a few days…No toxic effects were observed….

In another study on the effects of Pregnenolone against arthritis inflammation, the clinical researchers wrote:

“Thirty patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis were given Pregnenolone, orally, over a period of six weeks. Of these patients, 50% showed a decided improvement, and another 30% showed some degree of amelioration of symptoms….No toxic effects were observed.”

In other words, benefits were experienced by a whopping 80% of the patients, and these benefits ranged from “decided improvement” to “amelioration of symptoms” – all with no toxicity whatsoever.

Additional Startling Healing Benefits

According to the respected website, DiagnoseMe.com, Pregnenolone has some other startling healing benefits in addition to its ability to help the body tame arthritis naturally. They write:

Pregnenolone has a strong proven history as a widely used, side-effect free arthritis treatment. Studies also indicate that it may actually aid in repairing the degeneration of the myelin sheath, the cause of Multiple Sclerosis.

Another recent groundbreaking study showed Pregnenolone was found to dramatically improve spinal cord injuries, even reversing paralysis when given shortly after the time of injury.”

And according to the Institute for Progressive Medicine, Pregnenolone works for other inflammatory diseases, as well, including Lupus, psoriasis and scleroderma. They write:

“Pregnenolone has been used since the 1940’s as an alternative to mainstream medications for the treatment of arthritis. Indeed, it is almost as synonymous with treating arthritis as cod liver oil.

Many arthritis sufferers find Pregnenolone particularly effective in treating the inflammation in their joints that they experience with the disease. Studies have confirmed the effects of Pregnenolone on arthritis.

In one trial 6 out of 11 people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis experienced moderate to marked improvement in joint pain and mobility after using Pregnenolone daily.

In another study involving 13 osteoarthritis sufferers, Pregnenolone reduced pain and improved mobility in 7 of the patients.

…Another study highlighted the substantial benefits of Pregnenolone therapy patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), psoriasis and scleroderma.”

Approved by Earl Mindell

Even noted nutritionist Earl Mindell, author of the best-selling Vitamin Bible and known as the “Father of the Nutritional Revolution,” has lauded the profound arthritis-healing properties of Pregnenolone, stating:

“A supplement that can make you smarter and happier – and reduce the symptoms of arthritis? It sounds too good to be true, but if new studies pan out, Pregnenolone may prove to be just that.

Pregnenolone is once again gaining popularity as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In the 1940s, RA patients reported that Pregnenolone helped to reduce the swelling, stiffness, and pain typical of their condition.

It took about two weeks for Pregnenolone to kick in, but once it did, patients were quite pleased with the result.”

Pregnenolone is Extremely Effective

According to Dr. Timothy J. Smith, M.D., a member of the American College for the Advancement of Medicine, and best-selling author of Renewal: the Anti-Aging Revolution, Pregnenolone has been found in his medical practice to be “extremely effective” against arthritis and other inflammatory disorders. He writes:

“In my practice, I’ve found Pregnenolone to be extremely effective against arthritis and other inflammatory disorders…

That should be no surprise. After all, in the late 1940’s, Pregnenolone attracted considerable scientific interest as a potential anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of arthritis and related conditions.

Several studies, including one published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, described the hormone’s effectiveness in reducing the swelling and pain of rheumatoid arthritis.”

A Dramatic 70% to 75%
Reduction in Pain

According to an article titled “Natural Remedies for Arthritis Pain,” studies show that Pregnenolone use often resulted in a 70% to 75% reduction in pain. The article states:

“Pregnenolone was originally researched in the 1940s for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Those studies showed that patients experienced between a 70% and 75% reduction in pain, with no side effects reported.

Then, the pharmaceutical industry studied Pregnenolone in the 1950s for rheumatoid arthritis with very good results.

However, because Pregnenolone is a natural product, and couldn’t be patented, they worried about the financial viability of recouping their research and development costs.

At that moment, Cortisone, a synthetic drug, was invented and was able to be patented. The study of Pregnenolone stopped. Cortisone showed good short term results for relieving pain, but after a few years, its harmful side effects, including immune suppression and osteoporosis emerged.

At this point, it was too late to stop the pharmaceutical industry’s promotion of Cortisone. A few years later, an equally dangerous cortisone drug – Prednisone – was invented.”

Pregnenolone is a “Kinder and Gentler” Treatment for Arthritis Inflammation

Finally, Dr. William Regelson, M.D., author of the best-selling book, The Superhoromone Promise, who has been widely credited with helping bring knowledge of Pregnenolone’s startling arthritis-healing qualities back to public knowledge, sums up the Pregnenolone story:

“In the 1940’s, Pregnenolone was used quite successfully as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, the disease that causes severe joint pain and fatigue, and that continues to plague millions of sufferers.

…rheumatoid arthritis patients who took Pregnenolone reported that they felt less pain and were less tired, and much stronger.

Despite the fact that Pregnenolone showed promise as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, all research on Pregnenolone as an arthritis treatment ended abruptly in the 1950’s.

Why?

It was overshadowed by the discovery of an exciting new drug, synthetic cortisone, which was thought to be a cure for arthritis…Cortisone produced almost overnight relief from arthritis symptoms. It was a dream-come-true for the drug companies.

The problem is that by the time medical science woke from the dream and realized that cortisone and its related compounds have some pretty nightmarish side effects, medical science had forgotten that once upon a time there was a substance called Pregnenolone, which produced relief from arthritis symptoms much more safely, albeit more gradually.

…I hope that Pregnenolone does not stay forgotten. I want to spread the word that Pregnenolone has a vast therapeutic potential, which deserves further investigation.

This superhormone, Pregnenolone, is not only a kinder and gentler treatment for arthritis, but it’s a proven strategy for enhancing memory and brain function and elevating mood.”

So there you have it. Pregnenolone is the “kinder and gentler treatment for arthritis” that medical science forgot. And why was it forgotten? Because it’s a natural substance and therefore cannot be patented, turned into a drug and its sale monopolized.

As authors Raquel Martin and Karen J. Romano confirm in their book, Preventing and Reversing Arthritis Naturally: the Untold Story:

“Although Pregnenolone was a success in the early 1940s, research on the hormone was not pursued very aggressively.

That’s because Pregnenolone is a natural substance and can’t be patented. Since the pharmaceutical industry did not see any significant financial return from producing it, they turned instead to synthetic cortisone.

And cortisone worked. Cortisone sales produced great profits and this became the miracle drug of choice. The patients were getting overnight relief, but most had no idea what was in store for them in later years when some adverse side effects kicked in…the remedy became worse than the disease.

No one foresaw that cortisone’s short-term benefits could be at the cost of harmful effects such as softening of bones, mental disturbances, degeneration of nerves, cataracts, hypertension, metabolic problems, debilitating effects on the immune system, decreased bone mass, and susceptibility to carcinogenesis.”

Pregnenolone is Not an Instant Cure for Arthritis Inflammation

It’s important to note, of course, that Pregnenolone is not an instant cure for arthritis pain and inflammation, as the synthetic drug cortisone was once touted to be. But then, anything truly worthwhile doesn’t work overnight. Pregnenolone instead builds the body’s natural anti-inflammatory resources gradually.

As Dr. Regelson says, “If you are using Pregnenolone to treat arthritis, you will need to be patient. Studies show that it can take several weeks before you will begin to feel appreciably better.”

And as author Raquel Martin sums up, “When it comes to bone and joint pain, bone loss leading to osteoporosis, and other degenerative diseases such as arthritis, we need to arm ourselves by looking back to a time when safer and more preventive measures such as Pregnenolone were used.”
